strawberry

last week my big sister and i took a last-minute-decision road trip to one of our favorite places, strawberry reservoir. it was incredible, and then some of our relatives surprised us and joined us up in the mountains on our little trip. i was thrilled, i've missed my family so much and love it when i can spend time with them. sometimes i think i take for granted how great they all are. one of the nights when everyone was up there,  i looked around at us all together sitting on the shore and thought, i couldn't be any happier right now. seriously, i really am one lucky gal to beable to call them mine.  isn't it funny how as you get older, you value your family more and more? i mean, of course you've always loved them, but just in comparing the teenager-year's priorities to now. you know what i mean? well, these are my people, and i love them.
& i've noticed that the closer september 28th comes, the more overly sentimental about my family and friends i become. it's pretty weird ... i mean, who is this girly girl? i don't know her... all nostalgic and actually cries during movies now ... what is this? & it's only six weeks until i leave, i can hardly believe it. it's crazy to think that i will have waited for five months since i've gotten my call by the time i leave. five months. & they have been the longest and hardest but at the same time the best and the happiest too. wow, i really am a girl. the mission process has been a roller coaster, but it's finally starting to get close and feel real. i can't even express my happiness and excitement when i think about it.

can't wait.

home

Just developed a couple old rolls of pentax film of around USU from back in april.

It makes me miss Logan so much. It's funny, I moved up to Logan three years ago for college kind of on a whim, completely alone, not knowing a single soul. Never would I have thought that it would end up becoming home for me. I've moved around so much, that nothing ever felt like "home". But when I went up to Logan, lived there for three years, it ended up being the longest time I had lived in one place, and then I was lucky enough to meet the greatest people who became my best friends, and it really did become home. Some of my favorite places, memories, and people reside there. Tiny little freezing Logan, Utah. Who would ever have thought? The town that you permanently wear a parka and snows 3 inches in May. Yes sir. And I fell in love with the it pretty fast too. Even though I really had complained about it's weather and how small-town it is, about every day,
I love Logan and probably always will.

The funny thing is, I've always had the travel bug ... always loved to travel, experience, and live in new places and cultures. And I am so excited that I get to leave to Finland for the next 18 months, you have no idea how excited.
But when I return, the day I move back to Logan ... well, it will be good to be home.

Saccharinely, Aj.

the 4th.

i just had the best night of my life.

first of all, it was the 4th of july. the 4th is my favorite holiday and my absolute favorite time of year. i love the 4th. it's in the summer AND there are fireworks ... on top of that, the strawberries and ice cream all around? well, this year i got to spend my 4th here:

the white house

pretty fitting right? i felt so american. thanks to some connections, we were invited to attend the white house independence day celebration. it was so much fun, i can't even explain how great it all was. everything we saw/heard/experienced was unreal.
well on top of all the celebrations, somehow i was completely unaware of who would be preforming that night on the white house lawn. when we arrived guess who was on the stage preforming? brandi carlile.  she was brilliant, that girl's got an amazing voice. she played such a great set & even threw in some johnny cash covers. i thought "this is the best", and then it got even better. 10 X better when i heard the melody of a familiar song coming from the stage.
my sister and i looked at each other, "no way!"
yes. the killers were there!!! i almost died of happiness, they are my favorite. i ran up to the stage, and started singing along. the crowd only contained bout 200 people, so i made it up to the very front row easily. the stage was touching my stomach, the band was as close as my fingertips. i could see the sweat dripping, all the action, & everything. it was unreal, the killers have forever completed my life. that's how great it was. but for the first 10 minutes they were playing I just kept saying "oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh",  grabbing strangers arm's next to me and screaming. I lost it.
they opened up with "human" & played 10 or 12 other songs. they played most my favorites, & if you have ever seen one of their shows then you know that they are incredible live. i was blown away. brandon flowers is a genius. & it was such a fun show too, you could tell that the band were enjoying themselves just as much as we were. but who wouldn't want to play a show on the white house lawn on independence day? incredible night.
they ended with a jam up of "God Bless America/Read my mind", (which was so cool) & after brandon flowers thanked the crowd & he gave out some high fives & smiles.  guess who got a high five & smile? i did. i love them. i love him.
hands down the best concert i've seen. to top it off, the night ended with the national capital's firework show. it was a huge firework show too, & you know how much i love fireworks, so i was in heaven. what a night. i am so grateful i had the opportunity to go and experience all of it. I'm still overwhelmed by how amazing it all was. never going to forget this night.
